AND & OR in Google Sheets
When one condition isn't enough, combine several. AND(a, b) is true only when every condition is true. OR(a, b) is true when at least one is.
On their own they return TRUE or FALSE, so you usually wrap them in IF: =IF(AND(B2>=18, C2="Yes"), "Eligible", "Not eligible"). Use NOT() to flip a condition.
Syntax
=IF(AND(cond1, cond2), …) · =IF(OR(cond1, cond2), …)
Example
=IF(OR(B2="VIP", C2>1000), "Priority", "Standard")
Priority if the customer is VIP or spent over 1,000.
Common mistakes
- Writing
B2>10 AND B2<20: Sheets needs the function form. - Using AND when the rule really means OR.
- Leaving out IF and getting TRUE/FALSE instead of a label.
