Joining text: & and TEXTJOIN in Google Sheets
The & operator glues values together: =A2&" "&B2 joins a first and last name with a space. Text you add yourself goes in quotes.
TEXTJOIN joins a whole range with a separator and can skip blanks: =TEXTJOIN(", ", TRUE, A2:A10) turns a column into a comma-separated list. It saves writing &", "& over and over.
Syntax
=A2&" "&B2 · =TEXTJOIN(delimiter, ignore_empty, range)
Example
=TEXTJOIN(", ", TRUE, A2:A10)
A tidy list of every non-empty name.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting the space, producing "AnaLopez".
- Missing quotes around added text.
- Numbers and dates lose their formatting: wrap them in TEXT().
