FILTER in Google Sheets
FILTER returns only the rows that meet a condition: =FILTER(A2:C100, C2:C100>1000) lists every order over 1,000. The result is live: change the data and the list updates.
Add more conditions as extra arguments for AND logic: =FILTER(A2:C100, B2:B100="North", C2:C100>1000). For OR logic, add the conditions together inside one argument: (B2:B100="North")+(B2:B100="South"). When nothing matches, FILTER returns #N/A, so wrap it in IFERROR for a clean message.
Syntax
=FILTER(range, condition1, [condition2, …])
Example
=FILTER(A2:C100, B2:B100="North")
Every row from the North region.
Common mistakes
- Condition ranges with a different number of rows than the data.
- Expecting multiple arguments to mean OR (they mean AND).
- Not handling the no-results #N/A.
